About the Role
You own the client and project-development journey from qualified lead through sales, client guidance, documentation, contract completion, and Operations handoff across Hinkle’s three service lines: Landscape Design & Build, Outdoor Living, and Pools.
Hinkle provides qualified leads. The Outdoor Living Landscape Designer owns design production, and the Ops Manager owns construction execution. Your job is to protect alignment between the customer’s expectations, design, scope of work, materials, contract, and construction documents. The outcome is a confident client, a clean handoff, and a profitable project without avoidable rework or margin blowup.
Hinkle Outdoor Living is seeking an experienced, consultative Outdoor Living Guide to guide high-end residential clients through the design-build sales process across three service lines: Landscape Design & Build, Outdoor Living, and Pools.
Target total compensation: $75,000–$115,000+ annually, including base salary and commission opportunity, depending on qualifying collected sales that meet the applicable gross-profit goal.
Meaningful sales opportunity: Hinkle provides an average of 3–4 qualified sales opportunities per week throughout the year, with normal seasonal variation. The role may manage approximately $1.5M in annual sales during ramp, growing toward $3.5M+ as a tenured Outdoor Living Guide.
Hinkle provides qualified leads. The Outdoor Living Landscape Designer owns design production, and the Ops Manager owns construction execution. The Guide owns selling, client guidance, documentation, margin protection, and a clean handoff.
What You’ll Do
- Run design discovery calls and qualify project fit, budget, timeline, decision-makers, and process alignment.
- Conduct in-home consultations and guide qualified clients through the next step.
- Work with the Outdoor Living Landscape Designer, Ops Manager, and client-relations team without overpromising.
- Present design discovery and proposal presentation decks.
- Lead proposal presentations, uncover and overcome objections, negotiate, and close.
- Protect the applicable gross-profit goal: 45% for landscape design-build, outdoor living, hardscape, and other non-pool work; 35% for pool-related projects.
- Maintain accurate HubSpot, LeanScaper, Google Drive, and project records.
- Coordinate complete handoffs to Operations with clear scope, expectations, materials, approvals, and open items.
- Represent Hinkle’s brand voice and consultative client experience.
What Success Looks Like
- Qualified leads move forward with clear next steps and accurate records.
- Clients understand the project, investment, scope, and next commitment.
- Client concerns and objections are addressed clearly, without unnecessary discounting or overpromising.
- Sold work meets the applicable gross-profit goal.
- The Designer has the information needed to produce the right design.
- Operations receives a complete, buildable handoff without avoidable gaps.
What We’re Looking For
- A proven track record of success in residential sales, preferably in design-build, outdoor living, pools, construction, or another high-ticket service business.
- A strong closer who can earn trust, uncover and overcome objections, and guide qualified clients to a clear decision.
- Excellent communication skills in phone, video, and in-home conversations.
- Reliable follow-up across multiple active opportunities, with no leads or commitments falling through the cracks.
- Strong listening, presentation, qualification, negotiation, objection-handling, and closing skills.
- Margin awareness and pricing discipline.
- Ability to collaborate with a Designer and Ops Manager while keeping ownership of the client and sales process.
- Comfort using CRM and documentation systems consistently.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to client properties throughout the Kansas City metro.
